Tues 30th Wharncliff

Postby John McMahon » Thu May 18, 2017 8:58 pm

A Meet Leader is needed for this one as I plan to be in Pembroke.
Any volunteers?
How about it Vicky?

Cheers

Hi John - Vicky is starting a new job so I will take this one on for you.

Lifts - I will be leaving the city centre about 4.45 if anyone wants a lift. The car will be parked next to the old Yorkshire Post Building on Wellington Street so I'll be heading out from there.

Wharncliff is a nice gritstone crag with a good range of grades.

Post up if interested.

Can't quite believe I'm beating JR to this but...actually it's coal seam sandstone rather than gritstone. Regardless, loads of good routes up to and including VS, and more above I believe.

Unlikely I can make it, but given it's my closest (timewise, at rush hour) crag to home it'd be rude not to at least try to find some free time.

The climbing on this crag is really good. Be careful walking around the bottom of the crag though. I wasn't careful enough last Thursday when I was walking along the 'path' at the bottom of the crag. I stepped off a rock onto some sticks and leaves. My foot went through the sticks and leaves into a small hole and I broke my ankle :-(

Don't let this put you off going to the crag though. There is a good path along the top of the cliff which I would recommend using instead of the path along the bottom.

As long as it doesn't rain, I am interested in going on Tuesday. Since I am not working and can drive there, I would be up for getting there a bit earlier. I also need a climbing partner (see above as to why). I have ropes and a full rack and will be looking to lead up to HS but happy to second harder grades, too. Post or text me if you are interested in partnering up! ;)

Oh no! Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Unfortunately I don't think I'll make this one as I have a few things to do before heading to Italy next weekend.

Forecast is looking good so hoping to get to the car park at 4pm. Bee is planning on joining me but not entirely sure what time at so can climb as a three and then split into pairs if folk are happy with that? Lindsay, let me know what time you can get there.

Link to UK climbing crag page here. https://www.ukclimbing.com/logbook/crag.php?id=85#maps

The walk in can be a bit confusing so I will post a description tomorrow and also put a picture of the map on Facebook.
