Simon's Seat walk Sunday 17th September

Postby Mountain_Bee » Sat Sep 09, 2017 5:08 pm

Hi all

The next walk is Simon's Seat and the Valley of Desolation on Sunday the 17th September. I've checked the dates for access to Barden and we should ,according to the dates published, have no issues on Sunday. Dates found here:https://boltonabbey.com/what-to-see/valley-of-desolation-simons-seat/

The walk is approximately 8 miles from Barden Bridge to the furthest point at Cavendish Pavillion and back, but I tend to extend the walk to enjoy views and stepping stones of Bolton Abbey which makes it a few miles longer (between 10 and 11).

This is a walk I really enjoy and the views are fantastic. This walk has a steep climb, wild open Moors and despite the name is beautiful tranquil woodland and river walking, topped off by afternoon tea opportunity at the Cavendish Pavillion.

Where to meet: Barden Bridge (the car park at the bottom of a steep lane after Barden Tower or the roadside next to it). free parking! Car sharing is advisable.

Time: 9:30am (its popular!)

Walk length: up to 11 miles (moderate).

Duration: 4.5-6 hrs depending on length of stops and optional walk extension.

Usual walking gear and food and drink supplies as lunch will likely be near the top or just after.

Map: OL2 Yorkshire Dales South & West.

Any questions let me know and please post below if you intend to come along.

I'd like to join this walk and would like to share transport from north Leeds, either as passenger or driver
