H(13) Helyg Hut, Ogwen Valley, Snowdonia

Postby John McMahon » Fri Mar 09, 2018 5:17 pm

In the heart of the Ogwen Valley with superb views of Tryfan, Helyg is steeped in the history of British climbing. It was our first climbing hut and was used as a base by the pioneers of British climbing in the 1920’s for their early ascents, particularly on LLiwedd and Tryfan. Later it was used as a training base for the 1953 Everest expedition. Grid ref: SH 691 601. The hut is on the south side of the A5 about 3K west of Capel Curig. The parking is on the north side of the A5 about 100m east of the hut. There is a barrier to the car park. Pull up in front of it and get the key from inside the hut.
I will cook Sausage and Apple with mash on the saturday night for anyone who wants it.

Hooray! I'm in!

I'd like to be part of the communal meal, please. Anything else that needs bringing? Second dessert? Veggie sausages?

If the weather forecast is good I'll be heading down and camping with the pooch! Can catch up with folk in the pub. :D

Hi John,

Jen and me would like to join the communal meal.

Jen is vegetarian, so she won't need sausages, just mash. Instead she'll bring herself a couple of carrots, decorated with marmite to look like sausages.

I am not vegetarian, so interested in both sausages and mash.

It looks like there are plenty of offers of side dishes and pudding, threfore I'll volunteer for washing up and any menial kitchen tasks as required.

Thanks!

Tom
