4th-6th May Camping Meet, Tal Y Lyn (Cadair Idris)

Postby Luke J » Mon Apr 09, 2018 12:19 pm

That time of year is nearly upon us, the sun is breaking through clouds and the birds are starting to sing. Meanwhile our thoughts can shift from freezing cold belays, bitterly cold winds and iced up eyelashes to balmy days, warm rock and sunglasses. Spring is here and for the first camping meet of the year we're off to some unpronounceable Welsh place "Cwmrhwyddfor" for the bank holiday weekend!

Situated below the magnificient Cadair Idris this is a superb location for brushing off the cobwebs and getting out again. There's walking of all difficulties as well as scrambling and rock climbing, all a stone's throw away on Southern Snowdonia's premier mountain range. The campsite itself has toilets, razor points, hot showers and wash basins with hot water supply, pets are allowed and they have space for vans/tourers with electricity hookups if you so wish. What more could you want? Oh yes, there's a pub 5 minutes walk away too.

More information on the site including directions here - https://www.walestouristsonline.co.uk/s ... ddfor.html.

In a field adjacent to the campsite lives a mule (or perhaps an ass, or even a hinny).

We discovered this on a meet there a few years ago because the mule would wake the campsite at dawn with a session of eeyoring. Both vigorous and prolonged.

You did ask 'what more could you want?' Well I think this is it. an important feature that makes the location extra-special, and I am sure will encourage many LMC members to attend.

I'll try and be there if the weather is good. It is a great location.

When I phoned them at the start of the year, the lovely lady said that we can just turn up. I was planning to give them a courtesy call on the Thursday before when the final meet location is decided.

Thanks Karl. As it looks like it is just me at the moment I've invited my friend Patti from Wales to come along too.

Me too.....depending on a reasonable forecast.
Think Peter and his boy were too, but I can’t really speak for him!

The long range forecast is looking pretty promising - no sign of rain in the run up to or after the bank holiday weekend, temperatures looking a little warmer too!

I'll therefore tentatively suggest that people start posting up for lifts etc...

I'll be leaving Guiseley at 4pm as usual on Friday. Can offer lift or happy to accept one. Will be heading back Monday afternoon.

Hi, weather looking promising so I'm intending on coming.

I won't be able to get there for Fri evening though, will leave early Sat morning so will probably arrive around 10-10:30.

Anyone without a confirmed climbing partner or if you're happy for me to tag on as a 3rd wheel, please let me know... I'm a bit rusty but will (probably) happily lead up to around S/HS (will be quite happy just to do a bunch of easy stuff though just to get back into climbing outside again) and second up to about VS/HVS, possibly E1 if I really get my mojo going again!

I'm planning on coming along, possibly accompanied by my other half, Jen. We'll be leaving Oakwood/Roundhay after I finish work at 5pm and have space for one more (possibly two if you pack light!). I'll be walking to keep adding to my ML days.
