16th August 2015D North Yorks Moors Maggie The walk I have planned is a 12 mile circular walk from the village of Rosedale Abbey. It will mainly follow the route of the disused Rosedale Ironstone Railway line around Rosedale Head so is fairly easy walking. The railway operated from 1861 to 1926 and was used to transport ironstone from the Moors to Middlesbrough. The walk will therefore pass some interesting industrial archeology sites. For those of us that enjoy post walk refreshment, Rosedale shouldn't disappoint. I plan to leave Rosedale Abbey Village Green at 10am. The weather forecast currently looks very promising for Sunday, but given the summer so far that may change. Packed lunches will be required whatever the weather.

June 12th-13thC WoolerAndre The Market Town of Wooler is located at the foot of the Cheviot Hills on the edge of the Northumberland National Park and makes an excellent base to discover the scenic Glendale area. Wooler is an attractive stone built town in North Northumberland, 17 miles from Berwick-Upon-Tweed in the North and 47 miles from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne in the South. The Town Centre consists of a busy main street with many pubs, restaurants, speciality shops, butchers and local producers, everything you could need. There are few places in Northumberland that can rival Wooler and Glendale's natural beauty and the area has long been a family favourite for walks and days out to 'escape from it all'.

Originally it was a large stone in the form of a man and was known as 'The Stone Man'. A wooden cross was erected on the top of the stone pillar to commemorate 'The Peace of Paris', the date on the back is 1885 and the initials DD and TB which are carved on it signify the Duke of Devonshire and T. Broughton, who was land agent to the Duke. The wooden structure has been renewed several times, the last occasion being after the severe winter of 1947. The present cross was rebuilt in 1997.

18th January 2015D Walking - Scarhouse Reservoir Marc Colbeck Angram and Scar House were built to supply water to the Bradford area of West Yorkshire. Water from here is transferred to Chellow Heights via the Nidd Aqueduct using only gravity and no pumping. The dam contains over one million tonnes of masonry, it rises to 55 metres above the river and is almost 600 metres long. It was completed in 1936. The dam height is 71 m (233 ft). The reservoir is fed almost exclusively from Angram reservoir, which in turn is fed predominantly from the flanks of Great Whernside.

He had loaded his camera with ASA rated film to get the best quality pictures he could in the less than perfect lighting conditions. He could not imagine what was to soon befall him.

31st AugustD Walking - Kinder John Armitage Mermaid’s Pool is a small pool on Kinder Scout in Derbyshire, England, which, according to legend, is inhabited by a beautiful mermaid who can be seen if you look into the water at midnight on Easter Eve. It is also said that its water is salty due to its being connected by an underground passage to the Atlantic. Henry Kirke White wrote a poem about a young man who drowned in the pool after he had fallen in love with her.[1] Another version describes her rather as a nymph who lives on Kinder Scout, and who bathes in the pool daily. This version describes how a local man to whom she took a liking was led by her to a nearby cavern, and whom she made immortal. This promise of immortality is said to apply to anyone who sees the mermaid on Easter Eve
